A teenager was found dead in the Johor Straits along Danga Bay, while his 37-year-old mother is still missing.
Earlier, Berita Harian was reported that the mother and son had jumped into the sea from a 30-foot-high cliff at Jalan Danga Bay near Country Garden in Johor Bahru.
South Johor Bahru District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the police received a report regarding the incident at 5.35 pm on Sunday (11 September). A search and rescue (SAR) operation for the victims was launched immediately following that.

“Based on preliminary information, the victim is a 37-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son. The couple is believed to have attempted suicide.” Raub said in a statement.
In another update, Johor Baru South acting OCPD Supt Lim Jit Huey revealed the report was lodged by the father when he could not find them at home.

“The husband was searching frantically along the coastal area around here before finding his wife’s parked car at a restaurant along Danga Bay and also recovered two pairs of slippers belonging to the two victims about a 1km away from the car,” he said.
Supt Lim added that the investigation found that there were some problems within the victims’ family prior to the incident.
Meanwhile, the teenage son’s body has been sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a postmortem, where the case was classified as sudden death.
Supt Lim said the search and rescue operation would continue within a three-nautical mile radius and they would also notify their Singaporean counterparts about the matter.
