“Internet service in prison?” Netizens asked why Najib’s Facebook remained active despite in jail

Despite being sent to the Kajang prison after the Federal Court upheld his SRC conviction, the disgraced former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s Facebook page remained active.

Recently, a Facebook post on Najib’s account triggered netizens’ curiosity and questioned if he is actually serving his sentence in the prison.

Najib has recently express condolences for Queen Elizabeth II on Facebook, who passed away on Thursday (8 September). It is believed that the page administrator posted it.

“Deepest condolences to the royal family, the government and the people of the United Kingdom on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

“We look back fondly at memories of her visit to Malaysia and her graciousness as host during our engagements in the past. She will be missed by all in the United Kingdom and all around the world. The world mourns with you,” the message said.

Along with the post was a photo of his father Tun Abdul Razak Hussein meeting the queen and another of Najib shaking hands with her.

The post did not go well among netizens who took to Twitter to ask how Najib was able to post on Facebook despite being in prison.

“Are inmates at Kajang Prison allowed to surf the Internet? What are they using? handphones? Laptops? What’s the WiFi password?” a netizen asked.

“From his Facebook? He can access while in prison? Really?” another netizen asked.

“What is this? Giving condolences from the cell? This country is a joke,” one angry netizen commented.

On 23 August, Najib was sent to Kajang prison after the Federal Court dismissed former premier Najib Razak’s final appeal to overturn his corruption conviction and 12-year jail sentence linked to a former subsidiary of 1MDB.

While there had been rumours that Najib was given special treatment in prison, the Prison Department had denied such claims and said Najib only had a fan in his cell, takes cold showers and is served food 5 times a day with the same meals dished out to other prisoners.
