Klang teenage cyclist met with fatal accident after truck fails to slow down in time and runs over him

On Wednesday (7 September), a 13-year-old teen who was cycling with his group of friends, met with a fatal accident on Persiaran Hamzah Alang in Klang.

According to Berita Harian, North Klang OCPD Asst Comm S Vijaya Rao said the incident is believed to have happened at around 3.30 pm when the victim turned onto the main road.

“At the same time, a garbage truck driven by a man coming from the direction of Kapar did not have time to avoid and hit into the victim,” Vijaya Rao said.

“The victim who suffered serious injuries was confirmed dead at the scene of the incident.” he added.

Meanwhile, a dashcam footage from the vehicle following behind the truck has since gone viral on social media.

The footage showed the truck driving along the road before a group of teenage cyclists emerge from the bridge and turn into the main road.

The victim is believed to ride in front of the truck, but the heavy vehicle did not slow down in time and run over the victim, along with his bicycle. The victim’s bicycle was also falling to pieces after going under the garbage truck’s wheels.

Vijaya Rao said the victim had succumbed to the severe head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.

He said the victim’s body has since been taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) for post-mortem.

The investigation found that the victim left his grandfather’s house on Jalan Nenas before the accident, but it could not be ascertained where he was going.

“Thus, the police asked the victim’s friends who were riding bicycles with the victim, as well as witnesses at the scene of the incident, to come forward and file a police report,” he said.

“The investigation is still ongoing and the lorry driver, who is 26 years old and has an address in Kapar, has had his statement recorded.”

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 for driving in a reckless manner or at a dangerous speed.
