Mount Kinabalu is the tallest mountain in Malaysia and it is no easy feat to conquer the 4,095m tall mountain.
Recently, a 90-year-old grandfather broke the record to become the oldest Malaysian to conquer Mount Kinabalu. The achievement was celebrated by a mountain guide on TikTok @iceeminn123, who congratulated the senior citizen for once again reaching the summit at his age.
In the viral video, it can be heard that hikers teased the senior that he can climb the mountain faster than them.
Nonetheless, the elderly man can be seen slowly making his way up the mountain with his hand held. He even managed to smile for the camera.
According to The Star, Sabah Parks Director Maklarin Lakim confirmed that the elderly man in the video was Buatin Blandong and was 90 years old.
“If our records are correct, he is the oldest Malaysian to have scaled Mount Kinabalu and reached the summit,” he was quoted as saying.
Maklarin said on Monday (5 September), Buatin started his journey from Panar Laban at around 5 am and reached the peak at 2.20 pm, after a 2km hike.

He added that an average hiker can reach the Peak from Panar Laban within 5 hours.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Buatin hiked the mountain. According to The Straits Times, he also scaled the mountain at the age of 82 in 2014.
According to his granddaughter’s social media posts, he has always maintained a healthy lifestyle and often goes on weekly hikes and jogs.

On social media, netizens congratulated the elderly man and salute him for the amazing feat.
“Congratulations, how I wish I can climb Mount Kinabalu… Salute,” a netizen said.
“Wow very proud of you. You’re an inspirations,” another netizen said.
