We should not stereotype those who are suffering from mental illnesses and label them as mentally weak. Instead, we should lend a helping hand to them and help them get back on their feet.
Recently, an elderly man who is under severe stress did something extreme that shocked his family members, as well as his neighbourhood.
According to China Press, the police received a report whereby a man was trapped in his own home in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur last Saturday (3 September).
The man is said to have set his car on fire before he cements the entrance of his house.
When the police arrived, they were unable to break in as the entrance was covered with cement. Even his doors and locks were covered with cement.
The police then contacted the fire department to come with tools to help break into the home.
Due to the huge commotion, many residents in the neighbourhood gathered around to get a glimpse of the scene.
The operation took 2 hours and the authorities managed to free the elderly man at around 12.05 am. The man was then handed over to the police for investigation.
It is believed that the man has cemented himself in his house as he was under an enormous amount of stress from loan sharks.
The elderly man is now in the hospital to receive psychiatric treatment.
