Another military asset breaks down on the way to Merdeka Day rehearsal, this time, its a trailer

NewsAnother military asset breaks down on the way to Merdeka Day rehearsal,...

On Friday (26 August), a military tank that was on its way to the upcoming Merdeka Day rehearsal broke down mid-way in Jalan Damansara. The stalled tank was later towed away.

A day after, an army trailer transporting a tank appeared to have broken down in front of Muzium Negara.

According to The Vibes, the middle and right-most lanes of Jalan Damansara are cordoned off with traffic cones as the trailer’s cabin is open with at least 10 soldiers seen peering into the engine.

At the same time, one army tow truck and two four-wheel drive vehicles are also on site.

About an hour later, the trailer’s engine can be heard starting up and the soldiers on duty were seen closing the engine compartment before they continue.

The incident is the second army asset breakdown this week and it has drawn the ire of many netizens, including Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil who directed a tweet at Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

“Military equipment breakdown yet again. Please provide us with an immediate explanation,” Fahmi tweeted.

Meanwhile, Muda co-founder Dr Mathen Nair also took the opportunity to criticise the nation’s defence system, describing it as “sick and fragile”.

“Just like how we get sick when our immunity defence is weak and broken, that’s how the nation looks right now with a broken defence system,” he wrote.

Other netizens also express worry about the country’s defence system and made relevance to the previous alleged corruption cases such as the LCS battleship and the missing fighter jet engines.

“Oh dear, how are we going to defend our country? Everything is breaking down, ships invisible, plane engines missing, submarine cannot dive,” a netizen said.
