The Malaysia Premier League match between Kelantan FC and Perak FC at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu, Kelantan ended in chaos after a brawl erupted between the football fans.
According to NST, the incident happened inside the stadium at about 6.30 pm after Perak beat Kelantan FC 2-1, and it involved more than 100 fans from both sides.
It was reported that the chaos was caused by provocation from one side to another. Though no one came to blows, but plastic bottles and other items could be seen being thrown as things became heated.
The incident saw the windscreen of a tour bus rented by Perak fans damaged. It is believed that the damage was caused by Kelantan fans who hit it with stones.
As the situation escalates, the police were deployed to calm the 2 groups before escorting Perak fans to the Kelantan police headquarters in Jalan Bayam.
The fans, including several women, were then sent back to Perak with three tour buses.
Three locals were also detained by police for causing damage to the bus.
Meanwhile, a series of videos of the incident went viral on social media, showcasing Kelantan FC supporters throwing objects at the people taking shelter in the middle of the field and rioting outside the stadium.
This is not the first time football fans from Perak were involved in fights. On Twitter, a netizen pointed out that fans from Perak had been involved in several fights since the 90s.
On the other hand, some netizens pointed out that the riot was instigated by Perak’s fans who started provoking the home team’s support.
“If you are visiting other places, be sure you bring along your manners and stop acting inappropriately. We are not robots that do not have feelings,” a netizen said.
Fortunately, no one was reported injured in the incident.
