M’sian company offers minimum wage of RM1,500 for all positions and qualifications, M’sians expressed disbelief

Social NewsM'sian company offers minimum wage of RM1,500 for all positions and qualifications,...

Having gone through university or any other tertiary education, Malaysians who are looking for a job are definitely expecting something more than just the minimum wage.

Recently, a job vacancy posting on the Malaysian government job portal MYFutureJobs has gone viral on social media with many netizens expressing disbelief.

According to Twitter user @mkhairulazri, a Malaysian company, Eastern Steel Sdn Bhd has offered minimum wage pay for all of its vacant positions.

In the series of screenshots of the vacancy listing of the company shared by the user, it showed all positions having different rankings and requirements were offered only RM1,500 pay regardless if they have a Bachelor’s Degree, diploma, certificate or SPM.

However, that’s not the worst as at the very end of the listing, it showed an opening for a production intern at the company which literarily has zero pay.

Meanwhile, netizens are certainly unimpressed by the company’s offer and have taken to the comment section to give their opinion on this.

Some netizens pointed out that the said company posted job vacancy ads on both government and other private job portals but the remuneration package at the other portals was much better and reflected the market rate.

They then suggested that the company offered the ‘lowball’ pay and ridiculous requirements to deter people from actually applying.

Netizens explained that this vacancy listing practice is a common thing for companies in both Malaysia and Singapore because it is allegedly a requirement for vacancies to be posted on government job portals and that the positions must be offered to locals first before they can be offered to foreign workers.

On the other hand, some netizens said it could be a typo from the company’s staff.

Nonetheless, the company nor the relevant authorities have responded to this issue at the time of writing and these comments are just guesses from netizens.
