Watch: Religious school teacher destroys students’ skincare and make-up products

Social NewsWatch: Religious school teacher destroys students' skincare and make-up products

Punishments are part of the learning process but educators need to carefully consider what kind of punishment is suitable for students who were found to have violated a rule.

Recently, a video showing a teacher destroying make-up products belonging to female students went viral online. The incident is believed to have taken place in a religious boarding school in Indonesia.

In the video, it showed a few teachers smashing skincare and make-up products such as lipsticks and lip balms with a hammer.

We all understand why students are prohibited to use smartphones in these boarding schools, as it could be a distraction to students who should be focusing on their studies.

However, it appears that skincare and make-up products are not allowed too.

In the comment section, netizens were divided, with some criticising the teachers’ method of disciplining students being way too harsh, while others justified the action by saying that that is how religious schools are.

“Teachers do not have the right to destroy the properties of their students. They should confiscate it and hand them over to their parents instead,” a netizen said.

“The lip balm is fine. I used to have issues with my dry lips during my schooling days. I had to use a lip balm,” another netizen said.

On the other hand, those who supported the teachers’ actions said schools have their own set of rules and regulations and students should not violate them.

“Religious schools do not just teach religion but also emphasize moral development. Honestly, it’s just a matter of fact that all religious teachers are strict,” a netizen said.

“Students are there to increase their knowledge, not to learn how to apply make up,” another netizen said.
