A community activist from Bukit Pelanduk, Port Dickson has expressed disappointment after he discovered that his identity as a whistleblower in misappropriation of subsidised diesel in the area was leaked to the public.

Speaking to Sinar Harian, Anbin Bala said he sent an email to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) on 1 July to inform them about the illegal storage of controlled goods in his area.

However, a few weeks later, some of his friends came and asked him about his complaint.

“On 1 July, I sent an email to the KPDNHEP minister regarding the issue that was occurring in the Bukit Pelanduk area,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the information in my email was leaked and I am now worried about my personal safety, as well as my family’s for making the report.”

According to the Bala, there were at least 20 to 25 illegal storages of subsidised diesel around Port Dickson and he suspects this has something to do with ‘insiders’.

Bala explained that he got the information based on his observations and complaints he received from concerned locals. He added that even petrol station employees in the area have seen suspicious tanker lorries with no logos pumping and taking away large volumes of diesel.

“Many know me as a community activist, and that is why they report to me about the swindling that was happening,” Bala said, adding that they made the complaints to him as they were afraid.

Meanwhile, Bala said he suspects that there may be corruption ongoing within KPDNHEP Negeri Sembilan to allow this to happen. He also claimed that it could be an ‘insider’ within the government agency that exposed him as the whistleblower to the public.

Bala added that this should not have happened and explained that he was only reporting the suspicious activity not because of politically-motivated or of personal interest, but in the interest of the community.

“After all, KPDNHEP disseminates information to the public and I was called to help ensure that such activities are eradicated,” he said.

“I hope those who are responsible will be honest in conducting investigations and taking action against the swindlers,” he added.
