On Friday (1 July), Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa launched the theme and logo for the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, where the theme follows the concept of Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama, while the logo which resembles Internet connectivity represents infrastructural development, communication systems and expansion of digitalisation efforts.
He then added that this is in line with the Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, with Teguh Bersama (strong together) as the tagline symbolising strength and togetherness that can be achieved through collective efforts by Malaysians.
However, it did not take long before Malaysians point out that the logo chosen to represent this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day celebration is rather underwhelming, and in fact, a poor choice.

The logo that resembles the WiFi symbol has since gone viral with many netizens said it reminds them of the WiFi icon, but with “pimples” on it.
“Standard 1 students can also design this on Microsoft Paint.” a netizen said.
“I really want to know the meaning behind this logo. I’m very very very curious.” another netizen commented.

Meanwhile, Political cartoonist Zunar also took the opportunity to poke fun at the logo as he draws smiley faces and jumping trails at the end of the tri-colour bands.
He then gave it a caption that says, “the National Day symbol symbolises lawmakers who are jumping frogs”.

On the other hand, Political artist and activist Fahmi Reza also joined his fellow netizens in mocking the poorly designed logo by putting his own touch on it.
Taking it to his official Twitter account, Fahmi whipped up his own spin of the logo and turned it into a drawing of a clown.
