Thailand has recently abolish the Thai Pass System and tourists can now go mask-free in public. However, that’s not all why Malaysians are going for a short vacation there.

The Thai government has also recently partially legalised cannabis laws which allow Thais to grow marijuana and consume marijuana-infused food and drinks. However, smoking it in public is still against the law.

Commenting on the matter, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has advised Malaysians who are travelling to Thailand to be wary of what they eat on vacation so they do not accidentally ingest cannabis-infused food and beverages.

He said this is because marijuana is still illegal in our country.

Meanwhile, he said the authorities will not be conducting drug tests for all Malaysians returning from Thailand.

However, if a person who had marijuana-infused food and is caught doing illegal acts, they will be brought to do a urine test, then they would need to explain why it is positive.

He said this after a journalist from KwongWah had asked him what would happen to people who accidentally ingested marijuana-infused food and beverages.

Hamzah also reiterated that one should be careful about what one consumes when on vacation in Thailand. If they feel it tastes suspicious, it’s best not to eat it.

He said that Malaysia has no right to interfere with Thailand’s affairs but Malaysians are still required to follow Malaysian law.

While it may be tempting to try it out, it may be better for us to not consume cannabis products.
