An elderly man suffered a fractured spine after he was attacked by a runaway cow in front of his house in Bandar Menjalara, Kepong on Friday (24 June).
Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Beh Eng Lai said the man’s daughter lodged a report on the incident at 11.25 am yesterday.
According to the report, the man was about to leave his house around 10.15 am when he met the runaway cow in front of his house.
“The man had earlier seen the cow running around the housing area. Then as he was leaving his house, the animal charged at him, knocking him down.”
“There is a viral video which shows a cow running along the MRR2 highway heading towards Sungai Buloh.”
“The video was recorded by a lorry attendant in his vehicle. He managed to capture the animal before tying it to a lamp post along the highway.”
“The aggressive animal, however, escaped and ran off towards Sungai Buloh,” he said.
Meanwhile, the police also managed to track down the animal’s owner after a report lodged by the Kampung Selayang Lama mosque.
Earlier, the mosque committee chairman, Anas Malik, had lodged a report over a missing cow.
“In his report, he said the animal was donated by members of the public for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha ‘korban’ purposes.”
“It was tied up in the mosque compound but escaped during the nose-piercing process.”
“We believe it is the same one which attacked the man in Kepong,” he said.
Beh added that the case was being investigated under Section 289 of the Penal Code for negligence.
He also urges those with information on the case as well as the cow’s whereabouts can contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Nor Hafizullah Norahim, at 017-2232031.
