A 3-year-old boy from Kampung Sri Bintang, Kuala Krai in Kelantan is in critical condition after a high amount of drugs inside his body.
According to NST, Kelantan acting police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the police were alerted by the incident after a doctor-in-charge lodged a report after conducting examinations on the boy.
“Police received the report from the hospital about 5 am on Sunday (19 June) and immediately sent a team to investigate.”
“Police were informed by the doctor who treated the boy that the drugs found in his body were of methamphetamine type,” said Muhamad Zaki.
He added that the boy had since been transferred to Raja Perempuan Zainab hospital in Kota Baru for further treatment.
Meanwhile, FMT reported that the boy’s uncle was a drug addict and it is believed that he brought the victim to an undisclosed location on Saturday.
However, it is not known if the victim was fed any drugs or had consumed it himself after seeing it around.
“The boy’s 30-year-old uncle was arrested last night and admitted bringing his nephew to the location. However, he denied that he fed him any drugs,” said Muhamad Zaki.
He added that the uncle, who had three records for drug-related offences, also tested positive for methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which deals with neglect or exposing a child to danger so as to cause physical injury.
If found guilty, the suspect faces a fine of not more than RM50,000, or imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both.
