The train frequency for the Kelana Jaya LRT line is expected to improve by August after more damaged carriages are repaired, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.
He added that it would improve from 8 minutes to at least 5 minutes.
“We have identified the cause for the damage and now repairs need to be done. So this August will see interim progress, with frequency at 5 minutes, and in November we will be able to complete all repairs,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Wee added the Transport Ministry (MoT) had set the August and November target because a lot of preventive maintenance needed to be done due to safety factors.
The ministry also apologised to all affected LRT users for the inconvenience, adding that the delays were unavoidable in the interest of safety.
“If we keep using problematic trains with the risks…we would not want any untoward incidents,” he said.
Earlier this week, RapidKL announced the updated frequency schedule for trains which saw the LRT Kelana Jaya line set to have a train arrive every 5 minutes, while MRT routes would have an arrival every 10 minutes.
RapidKL also explained that a train was experiencing “technical difficulties” and had to be removed from service. It also assured that the frequency would return to normal soon.
Unfortunately, this extension has caused commuters to be stranded at the stations due to the unusual congestion to go to work.
Commuters had also taken to social media to vent their frustrations at the long queue at the station and on the train.
Apparently, this situation will not improve until 2 months later and commuters will have to bear with this.
