Netflix has announced a real life Squid Game competition with a grand prize of USD4.56 million (approximately RM20 million) – and they are looking for players.
However, unlike the life-or-death stakes as in the worldwide hit show, Netflix promises that those who lose will leave the competition alive and unscathed. The worst fate, they say, will be going home empty-handed.
Across all of their social media channels today, 15 June, Netflix announced that the competition will be a reality TV show called Squid Game: The Challenge.
It said it will be the biggest reality competition series ever, with the largest cast of 456 real players and the largest ever cash prize of USD4.56 million (RM 20,125,560) in reality TV history.
Producers have said players will compete in a series of games and challenges inspired by the original show, as well as “some surprising new additions”.
Netflix is currently doing a global casting call for the exciting new 10-episode series that will be filmed in the UK. “With a fortune up for grabs, who will be an ally, who will you trust, and who will you betray in this ultimate test of character?” reads the call on the official Squid Game: The Challenge casting website.
They are looking for English-speakers from any part of the world to join.
According to the application form, Malaysians are eligible to apply, as long as they are also:
– At least 21 years of age at the time of applying,
– Available to take part in filming for up to four weeks in early 2023 (as they anticipate),
– Able to attend filming at all locations they will specify with a valid passport,
– Not employed, previously employed, or an immediate relative of an employee at All3 Media Group or Netflix.
Interested individuals will also have to upload a one-minute video of themselves explaining why they want to be on the show, what their game plan is, and what they will do with the huge cash prize if they win. They will also have to upload two recent photos of themselves, a headshot and full length, to the reviewers.
If you think you have what it takes to win, head on over to the recruitment website here.
