A video showing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob wearing a vest that has ’15th General Election’ (GE15) printed on it while washing a plate has gone viral on social media.
The video is believed to be taken during the Institut Latihan Memperkasa Ummah (ILMU) event held at Janda Baik, Pahang on Saturday, 4 June.
Friends Of BN, a Facebook page with over 100,000 followers, shared that it is compulsory for attendees to wash their own dishes during the event regardless of their social status.
“(You have to do your own dishes) even if your position is the Prime Minister,” the page wrote.
“Ismail Sabri, a ‘party person’ who understands this tradition well, washes the plate and cup he used. It’s something he has done for decades as a party member.”
The pure-heartedness and humility of our Prime Minister is an example and role model to us, (which reflects the saying) ‘leading by example’.”
The video went viral after Ismail Sabri took a jab at DAP, who criticised him for ‘flip-flopping’ in calling the next General Election.
“If you look at statements from previous prime ministers, did they set the election dates? If you ask (Tun) Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) then, he would answer by saying he has yet to get any inspiration.”
“As such, I cannot give a specific date, and (even) if I do, I would be pre-empting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, (and) this would be against the Constitution. Perhaps DAP has the attitude of not respecting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong but I do. I abide by the Constitution.”
As of now, it is uncertain when GE15 will be called, which is not due until May next year.
However, the recent political narrative suggests that GE15 could be called early as UMNO’s ‘court cluster’ — such as Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi — is rumored to be pressuring Ismail Sabri to dissolve the parliament to make way for GE15.
Despite not confirming when GE15 will take place, Ismail Sabri was caught in the video wearing the vest with ‘GE15’ printed on it.
Sinar Harian noted that Barisan Nasional (BN) “is seen to have put in the ‘gear’ to face GE15” following the ILMU event that was officiated by Ahmad Zahid.
