Kelantan has been recording several rape cases recently, but the Kelantan state government is now passing the ball to netizens for the rising rape cases in the state.
According to FMT, Deputy Chief Minister of Kelantan, Datuk Mohd. Amar Nik Abdullah said that netizens have been sensationalising the incest and rape that were reported by the media.
Thus, he said that it is not appropriate for the state government to be held responsible for the rising rape cases in Kelantan.
Meanwhile, he acknowledged that there were many rape cases reported in the state recently, but pointed out that this also happens in other states.
Sikap suka mensensasikan kes rogol dan sumbang mahram khususnya membabitkan Kelantan menjadi punca negeri itu menjadi “sohor”, kata timbalan menteri besarnya, Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.#Malaysia #berita #terkinihttps://t.co/2JWItZ9u9I pic.twitter.com/Q7srT5Xsup

“Perhaps the cases in other states had not been reported, making it look like a big issue in Kelantan.” he said.
Elaborating further on the matter, Mohd. Amar said people should also not point fingers entirely at parents for such incidents. Instead, people should look at the attitudes of their own children.

Nonetheless, he said Kelantan has a policy of “Developing Together with Islam” and the state government always strives to provide religious understanding and education.
“But, because the world is open, we teach religion and anything that comes in through the internet and smartphones.” he said.
He also said Muslims have been taught to live by the teachings of Islam and maintain good conduct even when no one is watching. Hence, people are accountable to themselves, and others should not be blamed.
He then gave an example, saying that police cannot be blamed if people decided to commit theft.

On social media, netizens were quick to slam the state government for being unable to accept the horrifying and messy truth of rape.
Many also criticised the Kelantan government for trying to push the blame on others, instead of standing up for the victim’s humanity and worth.
Meanwhile, netizens also disagree with the minister that the media and public should stay silent on rape cases in Kelantan.
