A dashcam video showing a man standing in the middle of a highway while throwing an ‘air punch’ at a vehicle honking at him in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan went viral on social media.
The incident was brought to light by Facebook user Up Wah Ab on Sunday (29 May) and he said the incident took place along the Temiang-Pantai Highway.
In the 10-second video, a man clad in a black outfit can be seen standing just outside the emergency lane on the highway. When an oncoming vehicle passes by, the driver honks at him, but the man responded by swinging his pouch bag as if he is trying to hit the approaching vehicle.
The driver was left in fear after the man’s act of intimidation.
Meanwhile, the user also shared some screenshots of the dashcam footage that showed a fleet of superbikes parked in the emergency lane.
Apart from superbikes, several other vehicles are seen parked on both sides of the emergency lanes too.
According to Utusan, the police are current investigating the viral video on Facebook under Section 48(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing an obstruction by parking a vehicle on the road.
Malaysia’s “New Zealand road”
The highway was reopened to the public last year and it was dubbed Malaysia’s “New Zealand road” for its scenic view.
This has then attracted several people to take photos on the highway flanked by green hills.
In January 2022, the state’s Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said he did not expect the federal highway to become a public attraction. Thus, he will work with the federal government to build a parking space on the road.
Despite its beautiful scenery, the police said they will reprimand those who park their vehicles on the highway just to take photos.
Earlier this year, members of a local car club were called up by the police for parking their cars on the emergency lane to take pictures on the highway.
The police have also reminded the public that legal action can be taken against the individuals in accordance with Rule 53 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulations 1959 which states that no vehicle of any class is parked or left unattended in any emergency lane except in case of emergency.
