Singapore’s water agency, NeWater, has developed a beer that is made out of liquid recycled from sewage, filtered, and pumped into Singapore’s water supply.
The new drink, named NewBrew, is available for purchase in shops and bars, and is released to raise awareness of the country’s water scarcity issues and the innovative solutions it has come up with to solve those problems.
The beer is being advertised as one of Singapore’s greenest beers, with the key ingredient made of sewage that’s been around for almost 20 years.
The company describes the taste as ‘smooth, not overly sweet and with a tinge of bitterness’.
The agency has emphasised that NeWater went through strict tests, several rounds of filtration, and is safe to drink.
The beer is available in packs of three, it will be priced at $3.28 USD per can.
