Roti canai vendor in Terengganu keeps prices at 50sen per piece, will not increase price despite price hike in flour

Last week, Malaysian Indian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) president Jawahar Ali Taib Khan said that mamak restaurants may soon increase the selling price of roti canai due to the price hike in flour.

However, this particular roti canai stall in Kuala Terengganu will not be doing so. In fact, the roti canai sold here had been maintained at 50sen each!

Rohaizan, who has been running his roti canai stall at the industrial zone in Kuala Terengganu since last year, said he has a heartwarming reason for him to stick to his original price.

“I pity my customers. It will increase their burdens if I mark up the price of the roti canai,” he said.

Meanwhile, a piece of roti canai is sold between RM1.20 to RM1.70, depending on the location of the stall. Rohaizan then said that 80sen to RM1 for a piece of roti canai is still common but for it to reach RM1.50 or more, that is unacceptable.

He also said that customers told him at times like these, it is not easy to look for an affordable roti canai like his.

He added that although prices of goods have been consistently increasing, he has no plans to increase the price of his roti canai anytime soon.

Rohaizan admitted that selling roti canai at 50sen each will not earn him a lot, but he is satisfied with it as long as it’s enough to support his life.

“I don’t get much profit but as long as I can cover my living expenses and pay my children’s school fees, then it’s enough,” he said, adding that he hopes to keep this current price forever so as to not increase the burdens of his customers.

Apart from roti canai, Rohaizan also offers his customers chicken, beef, and sardine Murtabak at the price of RM5 for 3 pieces.

It’s truly difficult to find roti canai that is still selling at 50sen nowadays. Kudos to Rohaizan who cares so much about his customers!
