Penang police have opened an investigation against 2 police outriders for allegedly escorting the son of Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim through the streets of Penang.

Azeez is a member of UMNO, a component party of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.

According to The Vibes, the video that went viral on social media was posted on an Instagram account @anwarazeez on Friday (6 May), but it was soon taken down. Though the video was later reuploaded on Facebook by other netizens.

The video that went viral showed Azeez’s son Mohamed Khairul Anwar taking the wheel while escorted by two police outriders along Jalan Bukit Gambir.

In another video, the outrider can be seen abruptly stopping an oncoming car while making its turn, allowing Khairul’s vehicle to run the red light.

Meanwhile, it is believed that Khairul was in Penang for his wedding, but Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain did not comment on Khairul’s business in the state.

Following the massive backlashes online, Suhaily said the authorities will look into the alleged incident and will be investigating the two policemen involved.

According to FMT, Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department (JSPT) director Bakri Zainal Abidin said the integrity and standards compliance department (JIPS) is currently probing the incident.

“JSPT will not compromise on any abuse (of traffic escort services) even though the matter is not under our purview.” said Bakri.
