The replacement holiday for Labour Day will transfer to Wednesday (May 4) instead of May 2, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced.
Meanwhile, he clarified the matter after the Keeper of the Ruler’s Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad announced that Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on May 2.
The PM said the shift was in line with the Holidays Act 1951 and the relevant Ordinances in Sabah and Sarawak.
Earlier, the Kelantan government announced that it has shifted the special holiday announced for Friday, May 4, to this Wednesday, in response to Syed Danial’s announcement.
The PM’s clarification came after it was announced that Malaysia would observe the first day of Aidilfitri tomorrow instead of Tuesday as had been suggested by the country’s religious authorities.
Aidilfitri is the Islamic holiday that marks the end of a month of ritual fasting by Muslims worldwide, and is celebrated on the first day of the Syawal month.
