Scrat the squirrel finally gets his acorn after 20-years of misfortune

Social NewsScrat the squirrel finally gets his acorn after 20-years of misfortune

Do you remember Scrat? The lovable sabre-toothed squirrel has captured the hearts of many since the very first scene of Ice Age 20 years ago. Since then, Scrat has been chasing down an acorn over and over again, only to have it ripped from his grasp each time.

On 14 April 2022, Blue Sky Studios, the animation studio behind the Ice Age films finally let Scrat have his acorn.

Many fans of Scrat were happy to know the little guy finally got to eat his acorn after 2 decades of chasing after it. Unfortunately, the clip that showed the monumental achievement was released to mark Blue Sky’s last production as a studio.

“In the final days of Blue Sky Studios, a small team of artists came together to do one final shot.”

“This shot is a farewell, a send-off on our own terms,” said the video’s caption.

This video came just slightly over a year since the studio announced it was closing, and their farewell then was as heartbreaking as it was wholesome.

Blue Sky Studios was a computer animation company active from 1987 to 2021, most widely known for their animated feature films in the early 2000s to 2010s including Rio, RobotsHorton Hears a Who! and The Peanuts Movie.

Following the merger of Disney and 20th Century Fox in 2019, Blue Sky Studios remained under Disney Animation until the pandemic impacted their business negatively.

On 7 April 2021, co-founder Chris Wedge announced on social media that Blue Sky Studios was shutting down permanently, thanking fans of the films and creators behind the studio.

While the studio is closed, the Ice Age franchise, however, won’t be ending anytime soon. Earlier this year, the spin-off The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild premiered on Disney+, and another spin-off, featuring the unfortunate squirrel himself, just premiered two days ago, titled Ice Age: Scrat Tales.

Nonetheless, the short video was a great way to pay homage to their running joke of Scrat, as well as to serve as the final collaboration between the animators at the studio.

After all the chasing, trials and glaciers he had to climb, it’s great that Scrat finally got that acorn. You did great, buddy!
