Seven inmates who were under remand at Jelebu Prison in Negeri Sembilan escaped the detention centre at 3 pm yesterday (10 April).
According to a report by NST, Jelebu District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Maslan Udin said police have launched an immediate operation to hunt down the escaped prisoners.
As of 7 pm last night, one of the prisoners, Sohaimi Khalid, was recaught at an oil palm plantation in Kongkoi, about 2km from the prison.
Maslan also said the police are assisted by the tracker dog unit (K9) from the Negeri Sembilan police headquarters and officers from Jelebu Prison in the retrieval operation.
Meanwhile, those who remain at large are Mazlan Samah, 39, Mohamad Aminuddin Khan Mohd Yusof, 28, Shazuan Md Sharif, 32, Mohd Zairizan Zainal, 42, Muhammad Syafiq Rohmat, 32, and a foreigner, Zainuddin.
The case has been classified under Section 223 and Section 224 of the Penal Code for fleeing detention as well as resisting lawful arrest, said the deputy district police chief.
FMT also reported that investigations are also being conducted into any negligence in handling a person under custody.
Maslan said the police welcome any information from the public to help them track down the prisoners. He added that anyone with information may head to their nearest police station.
