Social NewsPDRM found fruit sellers in Johor keeping their stock in the drains...

We should be extra careful if we are dealing with food, especially when we are selling them to the general public. We’ll need to ensure the quality of the food in the entire process, from preparing to handling it to the hands of the customer.

According to a report by Kosmo, the police in Johor have recently found vendors in the state who store their stocks in drains!

Johor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief, Superintendent M. Kumarasan said this was exposed in a recent special operation conducted since the beginning of March.

He added that during this period, 6 summonses were issued against business owners and hawkers.

“This operation is carried out regularly and continuously, but lately this activity has become more widespread, especially in the traffic light intersection areas between Bandar Baru Uda and Jalan Tampoi.” he said.

The police also found 52 other locations where these street vendors conduct their business.

“Through the operation carried out, it was found that the pickled fruits were stored and hidden in the wrong location – in drains and near sewage areas to avoid action being taken by the enforcement authorities,” he said.

Kumarasan also explained that this activity is also feared to be masterminded by a syndicate that tries to make a profit easily and some of them are even bold enough to employ foreigners to carry out the activity.

“This is irresponsible and they had ignored the importance of food hygiene, as well as the risk of the food being contaminated with dangerous bacteria or germs,” he added.

Nonetheless, this is definitely not the right way to store food. It is not only disgusting but it could potentially put consumers’ health at risk.
