Mathematics is one of the hated subjects by students and most would wonder how advanced mathematics will help us in our lives in the future.
Recently, a netizen had decided to make use of his knowledge in mathematics to calculate how one can win the Supreme Toto 6/58 jackpot which, at the time of writing, is worth RM71,897,095.88.
The objective of this netizen was simple and he only need to determine how much he would need to have a shot at winning the jackpot and if it was worth it.
The workings were shared on a Facebook page 马来西亚大件事 and he claimed to be proficient in statistics and included some of their calculations in the post for those interested.
According to him, there are currently 40,475,358 combinations of the winning lottery numbers. If one were to have a 100% win rate to hit the jackpot, based on a set of RM2 each, a person would need to spend RM80,950,716.
He also predicted that if the jackpot has not been won after 5 more portions, the payout would have increased to RM82,000,000. “If you buy all the combinations, you can pocket a net of RM1 million,” the netizen shared.
While this may sound promising, but netizens pointed out that this kind of lottery could have multiple winners.
This means that there is a possibility of winning with others. “If another person also wins, you have to split the prize equally with them,” netizens shared. As such, they feel that the risk is not worth the rewards.
Meanwhile, some did not believe in the maths done and said why would someone who can afford RM80 million blowing it all on lottery tickets for a smaller payout of RM1 million.
Perhaps, it is better for to keep it simple and leave it to those who are truly lucky.
