The Kedah State Consumers Association (Cake) expects an increase in the price of chicken-based food sold at the Ramadan bazaar next month.
Cake secretary Mohamad Yusrizal Yusoff said based on past experience, the increase in food prices will usually occur when the Ramadan or festive season arrives.
Besides, he also said that the increase in chicken-based prices is anticipated due to high demand.
Meanwhile, chicken prices dropped slightly after the government subsidized chicken farmers.
However, there is still the possibility that prices will increase due to high demand during Ramadan.
Mohamad Yusrizal added that most of the bazaar sites in the state such as Jitra and Kota Setar were full.
The stalls are snapped up by traders who wanted to do cash in on Ramadan.
He hoped that the authorities would be prepared in the event of such a price hike.
