On 4 March before dawn, 48 motorcycles and 4 cars were burnt down in a blaze at the ground floor of Block C PPR Intan Baiduri, Kuala Lumpur.

It is believed that the fire was started by an arsonist around 4.20 am before police and firemen were called to the scene.

In a statement, Sentul police chief ACP Beh Eng Lai said they received a distress call at 4.21 am and firemen arrived at the scene at 4.39 am to put out the fire.

“They managed to douse the fire completely at 4.56 am. Fortunately, no one was injured in the early morning incident. The fire is said to have started from one of the motorcycles parked at the parking area before it spread to others parked there.

“Forensic investigators from the Sri Rampai Fire Station are combing the scene to establish the actual cause of the fire,” he said.

He also said the estimated loss in the fire amounts to RM300,000.

This case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire.

According to Berita Harian, Beh said that 2 suspects, aged 31 and 39 respectively, had been nabbed to assist in the investigation.

He said that the urine test of the 39-year-old suspect returned positive with methamphetamine, while the other was negative.

“The motive for the suspects remained under investigation.” he said.
