The Internet has no boundaries and anybody can access the information they want with just a click of a button. While it may be convenient for many, parents have long been concerned about children watching sexual content online.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has also found that children who are exposed to pornography at a young age will have a detrimental effect on their mental health.
The report said that among the risk involved is children will imitate what they saw.
However, parents can’t be with their children all day and they will inevitably come across pornography eventually if not done so already.
Recently, a Facebook user Adlil Rajiah shared her worrying and shocking encounter with their 5-year-old son, where he was invited by a 4-year-old kindergarten friend to do a ‘lick-lick’ action.
After investigation, she found that the 4-year-old boy wanted to do the porn act after he was exposed to porn on his mother’s mobile phone.
Adlil said the incident was traumatizing for her and her son and she regretted that the kindergarten had failed to monitor the children in its care.
As such, parents and guardians need to understand the exposure of children to pornography, adult material and sexual content online affects a young person.
Many netizens said parents must be committed to doing everything they can to prevent their children from accessing online pornography.
However, it would not be easy for parents to have total control over what their children is accessing.
With this, one suggestion would be to start early in educating children about sex. Although many would prefer to avoid such a delicate and intimate topic due to our conservative cultural norms.
Instead of leaving this subject to the schools, parents should also play a part in educating their children proper and health sex.
