Lack of empathy from neighbours had forced this family with autistic child to move out of their house

Autism affects thoughts, feelings, and interactions and those who are diagnosed with it can find it hard to identify, manage and express their emotions. This often causes them to throw tantrums and disturb their neighbours.

Recently, a family with an autistic child was forced to move out of their house after their neighbours made several complaints to their landlord about the disturbance the autistic child caused.

“To two left and right neighbours at Temasya Suria… we know what you did, and we know what kind of people you are.. but no worries.”

“Your wish has come true. You have succeed in getting the landlord to not renew the tenancy. We will be moving out end of this month.” Iman Wan Tuck Meng wrote in a post on the family’s Facebook page.

Harian Metro also reported that some neighbours in the neighbourhood are unhappy with Iman and his family as they claimed their son Adam Wan Mun Yu, 20, often makes loud noise.

Adam has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) since he was 2-year-old.

“My son will not be a nuisance to you anymore. Apologise for all the inconvenience caused. May you have a peaceful and good life after this.” Iman wrote.

Iman also said the lack of empathy, compassion, and the inability to accept and understand autism led to this situation. Iman also explained that Adam is not making noise every day, and even if he did, it’s never from dawn till dusk.

However, Iman said his family will not be let down by this incident and they will work harder and continue to advocate about autism awareness, acceptance, and understanding.

We hope the best for Adam and his family and that more people will understand autism and how to deal with it. Good luck in future endeavors!
