Sinovac booster dose available starting 14 February at all offsite PPVs

On 7 February, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that the Health Ministry (KKM) will allow Sinovac recipients for their primer doses (first and second dose) to continue receiving the Sinovac vaccine as their boosters.

Following this, the Sinovac vaccine as a booster dose will be available at all offsite vaccination centres (PPV) under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme for free, starting 14 February.

In a statement on 12 February, ProtechHeath Corporation Sdn Bhd said those who are eligible for the booster dose and wish to obtain Sinovac can check the list of offsite PPVs on www.protecthealth.com.my.

“However, the Health Ministry is still recommending Pfizer boosters for Sinovac recipients as it offers a higher level of protection,” it said.

In a press conference on 7 February, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin emphasize the motto “any booster is better than no booster”, where he said that the public will be granted access to pick the vaccine of their choice which will also henceforth include Sinovac, among Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

He also revealed that 3.5 million Sinovac recipients have yet to receive their booster jab.

“Although the Health Ministry has recommended either receiving the Pfizer or Astrazeneca booster for extra protection, there are still those who ask for choices to be given.

“We are still strongly recommending either Pfizer or Astrazeneca booster shots but something is better than nothing,” he said.
