Malaysia’s well-known actor and director, Nam Ron has been called up by the police for a poster he uploaded on his Instagram account, featuring Ms Pui Yi and the prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Nam Ron, whose real name is Shahili Abdan, said he was shocked as it was the first time he met such an incident in his three decades as an actor.
According to Kosmo, Nam Ron is being investigated under section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 after an individual reported his Instagram post.
He explained that he only shared the poster on his Instagram because he felt there was a good message.
“I did not make any threats and incitement and I am not a person who is crazy for likes when uploading posts on social media.” he said.
Nam Ron said the people who lodged the report is perhaps dissatisfied with him.
“Why do you want to chase likes or followers, that thing is not important because most of my posts are just for fun or a parody of an issue.”
Despite a report being lodged against him, Nam Ron said he was not intimidated by it. He explained that he did not commit any offence and would still be himself every time he uploaded a post on social media.
The controversial post shared by Nam Ron features a photo of a Malaysian model, YouTuber, and social media influencer, Siew Pui Yi, with a portrait of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was photoshopped onto the picture.
Though the message the artist tries to convey is “Keluarga Malaysia is Forever”, the photo also contains other remarks which are unjust and disrespectful to Ismail Sabri.
His followers were not amused and slammed Nam Ron for sharing such a distasteful poster.
