On Sunday (23 January), there was a rally that took place at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, with the group protesting against the “persecution” of ex-prime minister Najib Razak and called for the arrest of former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

According to a report by FMT, Persatuan Sahabat Ulul Amri Malaysia chairman Syed Muhammad Imran Syed Abdul Aziz said at the event that Najib had been used as a scapegoat and denied his rights.

He also claimed that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had withheld key evidence that could exonerate Najib but had instead chosen to protect certain “big names”.

“The MACC is abusing its power to cover up for big names like Zeti Aziz and her husband, Tawfiq Ayman, who are linked to the ‘AmBank Report’.”

“There is evidence that can clear Najib of all the charges against him,” he said.

It was reported that about 500 people had gathered for the event and they kept chanting “Tangkap, tangkap”, “Tangkap Zeti” and “Bebas bossku”, demanding the arrest of Zeti and freedom for Najib.

The protestors can be seen sitting in neat rows, observing physical distancing.

However, one Twitter user had revealed that the group of protestors were actually flood victims in Selangor who have been deceived into joining the rally to support the infamous former prime minister, Najib Razak.

The netizen said the flood victims showed up at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur to receive post-flood assistance as stated in a flyer that was distributed to the victims, which claimed to have been organized by The Malaysian Federation of Hawkers and Petty Traders Association in Taman Sri Muda Section 25.

Unfortunately, things were not as what they expected when they arrive at the place.

From the pictures of the rally, most of the attendees were elderly and each of them are holding a placard that says “Stop The Persecution Of Najib”, and “We Don’t Want PRN, We Want PRU”.

Many showed a confused impression on their faces as if they do not know what is happening.

If this is proven to be true, Najib may need to come up with a strategic statement of any retaliating PR move that could clear his name.
