Lee Zii Jia finally speaks after BAM’s 2 year ban, adding that he will share his future plans when it is time

Social NewsLee Zii Jia finally speaks after BAM's 2 year ban, adding that...

Last week, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) had announced that they will not be registering both Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei for any tournaments under the Badminton World Federation for 2 years.

The announcement has caused outrage among badminton fans, both locally and internationally. Fellow netizens had been standing up for Zii Jia and Jin Wei, as well as fellow shuttlers from Malaysia and other countries had spoken up for him. However, Zii Jia recently stated he is considering his next options.

Following his resignation, there were plenty of discussions from various parties about what he should do next. Meanwhile, Zii Jia had expressed his feelings towards the decision and said he need time to clear his mind.

“This is a hard time for me,” Zii Jia was quoted as saying by The Star.

“I know there are many who are supporting me and I’m grateful, but I need some time to clear my mind,” he said, adding that he is thinking through his plans and finding clarity for his future.

“When I’m ready, I will surely let everyone know of my next move.”

BAM’s ban has not only destroyed Zii Jia’s plans but messed up his professional career too. Zii Jia had hoped to compete in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where it will give him the opportunity to climb to greater heights. However, the ban had shattered his dreams and prevented him from entering other international tournaments as well.

Meanwhile, it’s not all bad as Zii Jia can continue as an independent player and move his training base out of Malaysia. If he stays in another country for a year, the Badminton World Federation will allow him to enter competitions as a member association of the country. For a quicker solution, Zii Jia could potentially take BAM to court to dispute their decision.

While Zii Jia is considering his options, there were others who were fighting for the ban to be lifted too. There were a few petitions ongoing that demands BAM to overturn their ban.

In addition, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu is planning to resolve the issue between BAM and Lee Zii Jia for both of them to reach a common ground.

Regardless of what happens, we hope that Zii Jia will stay strong and continue to train hard for his dreams. Hopefully, Zii Jia will be able to carry Malaysia’s flag on the court again.
