Former world #1 Roslin Hashim slams BAM’s top brass for Zii Jia’s resignation

Former world #1 shuttler Roslin Hashim has openly criticised the management of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) following Lee Zii Jia’s resignation from the organisation.

Taking to social media, Roslin said Lee did not leave BAM because of a more lucrative offer from outside, as speculated.

“The question now is why Zii Jia came out of the big parent body, that has everything. There has to be a post-mortem process. We have to know the reason why Zii Jia made that decision. The problem now I think is management.” he said.

Roslin then cited his own unpleasant experience with BAM and urged that something has to be done to the top brass of BAM for the future of the country’s badminton sport.

He also called out to the 2 people, who he claims should be responsible for the drama happening all along, and they are BAM secretary Datuk Kenny Goh and BAM development committee chairman Datuk Ng Chin Chai.

He added that BAM will be limping along on life support if the two individuals remain in the organisation.

In the video, Roslin also pointed out the irony with them when they took credit for Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s successes but none of the blame when things did not work out for Zii Jia.

He also claimed that they are the real decision-makers at BAM, while the president is a mere follower.

Meanwhile, several world renowned badminton players had show support to Lee following his punishment by BAM, including the Denmark’s world #1 shuttler Viktor Axelsen.

In a Facebook post, he said Lee should be allowed to go independent if he feels it’s best for him, as it’s his career and life after all.

“Having played against LZJ numerous times, I’m sure that no matter what, LZJ will continue to do everything he can to produce good results and continue to do his best to make Malaysians, and everyone who supports him proud.” he said.

Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia have also spoken up for their brother-in-arms. Additionally, former national player Goh Liu Ying has given her opinion on the whole situation.

Aaron said the decision was Zii Jia’s and Zii Jia’s alone. “We don’t have an opinion on it,” he said to Sin Chew Daily, while Soh said, “We respect Zii Jia’s decision, and I won’t say anything about it for now.”

Liu Ying also publicly announced her support for Zii Jia’s decision on her Instagram, saying that it is better to leave a toxic environment than to wait for change. “Don’t waste your emotions on things you can’t change or handle, because your emotions can’t change the outcome of things other than the pain,” she wrote.

“Don’t wait until you’ve lost it to keep it.” Although she did not mention Zii Jia’s name, many were quick to assume she was referring to his current situation.
