A woman in her 20s had claimed that she was sexually harassed by a Johor assemblyman.
After the incident went all over the press, Sedili State Assemblyman (ADUN), Rasman Ithnain has denied the allegations of sexual harassment in a police report against him.
Rasman also claimed that the accusation was a political conspiracy, defamation, and an attempt to tarnish his dignity and reputation as an elected representative.
“At 2 p.m. yesterday (17 January), I was informed that there was a police report lodged against me by an individual who is also a Member of the Srikandi Committee of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) Kota Tinggi Division.”
“I hereby strongly deny the allegations in the report. This is a political conspiracy, slander and an attempt to tarnish my dignity as well as tarnish my reputation as an elected representative.”
“I am also ready to give my full cooperation throughout the investigation process to ensure that justice is done.”
“I am also in discussions with my lawyer to take appropriate legal action against any individual who tries to tarnish my name and image like this,” he said in a statement, reported Berita Harian.
Previously, it was reported that the police received a report from a woman who claimed to have been sexually harassed by an assemblyman in Johor.
Kota Tinggi District Police Chief, Superintendent Hussin Zamora, was reported to have said that they received a report of alleged misconduct by the assemblyman, from a 26-year-old woman at the Kota Tinggi Police Station at about 11.30 a.m.
The victim claims that the assemblyman sexually harassed her more than once.
