After Rina Harun, PM Ismail’s ‘Shovel-Gate’ Is The Next Publicity Stunt To Come Under Fire

Social NewsAfter Rina Harun, PM Ismail's 'Shovel-Gate' Is The Next Publicity Stunt To...

Earlier this week, Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun was being criticised for putting up an act while cleaning one of the temporary evacuation centres (PPS) for flood victims in Sepang.

According to her Facebook post, she was there to clean up the school for the upcoming session which is expected to commence next month.

However, netizens were skeptical about Rina’s intentions as a video that went viral on social media showed Rina was cleaning the drain and the floor in an area of the PPS using a waterjet despite the drain looking clean.

In addition, there were several cameramen around to capture the scene too.

However, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) had immediately released a statement to clarify the situation after the incident that is circulating online, explaining that Rina was there with other volunteers to do the work.

Shortly after netizens fire rounds at Rina Harun, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was the next to come under the spotlight for his publicity stunts, who allegedly posed rather disingenuously with a shovel during a communal clean up in a flood-hit area.

In a 12-second video shared on Twitter, Ismail was seen holding a shovel and scooping up some mud while being surrounded by a group of cameraman before shots were taken.

After which, the bomba personnel can be seen taking over the shovel from Ismail while he left the scene.

“It’s fun for the PM to play with a shovel. Only in Malaysia.” the netizen who shared the video wrote in the caption.

Netizens in the comment section pointed out that Ismail’s good at posing for the camera. Some even asked whether Prime Minister’s Office (JPM) will issue a statement to explain this, similar to the response from JKM on Rina Harun’s matter.

Nonetheless, both of these incidents were not the first and the people are aware of the publicity stunts the politicians made amidst the flood relief efforts.
