NewsPTPTN Borrowers Affected By Flood Now Allowed To Defer Their Loan Repayment

The government has agreed to give individuals who are affected by the devastating floods last week a 3-month loan repayment deferment to the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).

In a statement, the Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad said the floods that hit central Malaysia last week had caused massive destruction to the people, among which include PTPTN borrowers.

“Affected borrowers can submit applications to PTPTN from 28 December 2021 to 31 March 2022. Further details on the repayment deferment will be announced by PTPTN.”

“This decision was made in line with the aspirations of the government, where we are concerned and committed to helping the Keluarga Malaysia in this challenging time.”

“It is hoped that the deferment of the loan repayment can ease the burden of affected borrowers,” she said.

Last week, massive floods had hit the country, with Selangor being the worst affected states, while the other states which were affected included Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Perak.

Meanwhile, the water levels in Pahang and Kelantan are on the rise, and the situation there is getting worse.

The losses involved were also estimated to be at least RM20 billion and this includes only damage to households and private property and damage sustained by businesses and industries, but not the potential losses from future economic activities.
