The flash floods that landed in the greater Klang Valley since Friday (17 December), have claimed its first fatality.
According to Bernama, the victim was believed to be in his 30s and his body was found at the main entrance to Alam Idaman Apartments, Section 22 on Sunday (19 December) night.
It is reported that the body was discovered after the floodwater level in front of the apartment began to recede.
The video that captured the discovery of the body also went viral on social media too.
Since then, the hashtag #KerajaanPembunuh has went viral on Twitter with netizens criticising the government for reacting late to the catastrophic disaster.
Besides this incident, netizens pointed out how they were left waiting for more than 48 hours for the authorities to respond and provide help.
“Government couldn’t send us 1 boat in Hulu Langat up until the next day 8am. The youth had to mobilise and ask their friends for boats. No enjin, kayuh je. No food? Penduduk Bkt Nanding organised Nasi Goreng & Teh O at 5am.” another netizen said.
Meanwhile, many criticised the politicians for their incompetent leadership and only visiting the evacuation centres instead of focusing on providing assistance to the victims.
Netizens also said that it was always the people who helped themselves in difficult times.
Nonetheless, this unexpected flood had highlighted several problems that Malaysians are facing, ranging from a bad crisis response plan to a poor city development plan that does not put emphasis on such natural disasters, but nobody seems to have the will to actually rectify these.
