Four men attempted to steal an ATM machine in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, which was located right opposite of a police station.
According to Harian Metro, the incident took place at 4 a.m. on Monday (13 December), but the suspects failed after the cable connected to a Nissan Vanette van and a Proton Iswara car to pull the machine snapped.
Kuala Pilah District Police Chief, Superintendent Amran Mohd Ghani said the police officer on duty at the station realised that the closed-circuit camera (CCTV) at the ATM kiosk was not working.
Amran said the police officer then went on patrol after they heard a loud bang from the direction of the kiosk that houses the machine.
“The results of the inspection from CCTV found that four suspects tried to pull out the ATM machine using wire cables and iron chains.” he said today.
“However, their attempt to steal the ATM machine failed when the cable connected using a Nissan Vanette van and a Proton Iswara Aeroback snapped.” he said.
Amran said the suspect then fled without pulling out the ATM machine.
He said the damage to the kiosk structure was estimated at RM8,000.
“Police are still conducting further investigations and the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code.” he said.
