Prices of literally everything had been spiraling upwards since last month and Malaysians had been suffering from it, as the only thing that did not increase is our salaries.
Meanwhile, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has asked the people to be patient while the government manages the issue of price hike in basic necessities.
He said this in response to a question from the Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday (7 December), at the same time criticising the government for its slow action over the rising prices of goods.
This comes after the Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he will meet with the Cost of Living Action Council on 9 December to discuss holistic methods to handle the rising cost of essentials.
Mustapa also said the government has committed to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.
“This is not the first time the Cabinet has discussed this matter. So be patient, when a meeting is held, the government will announce appropriate measures to address an issue that the government is aware of.”
“The issues are big and important to be addressed effectively.” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the government has in fact taken action to reduce the prices of basic necessities.
“I’ll answer briefly, the ministry has organised “Keluarga Malaysia” sale at 15 locations across the nation.”
“Besides, the ministry has allowed the import of 5.5 million chickens as an temporary measure. Many actions have been taken and the Cabinet Committee will discuss this at the Cost of Living Action with its members.” he said.
Anwar said government agencies should take immediate steps to tackle the problem instead of waiting until 9 December to attend the meeting.
