Memory loss in the elderly has been a common problem that till to-date has no solution for it.
However, thanks to Dr You Yee Xing, a post-doctoral researcher in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s (UKM) Centre for Healthy Ageing and Wellness, we now have a solution for this long time problem.
Very often, elderly people have their memory deteriorates as they age.
Dr You has successfully created a Ulam Raja (Cosmos caudatus) supplement that is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants to prevent senile dementia in the elderly.

The supplement has the potential to act as a cognitive disorder prevention agent by lowering lipid peroxide levels, increasing serum glutathione levels and activating the brain.
Meanwhile, the results of his study found that this supplement improves global cognitive function, working memory reduces stress and emotional disturbances among the elderly.
In addition, it also creates a positive impact on the society’s health, as well as the economy with the the development of agro-based industries and agriculture related to Ulam Raja.
With this, Dr You was awarded the Doctoral Gold Award at the recent 49th UKM Convocation Ceremony.
He is regarded as someone with a cheerful personality and he is able to speak fluently in Malay.
Dr You is a graduate in the field of dietetics and he has successfully published 23 papers in well-known publications including journal articles related to the field of study and book chapters.
His latest achievement was lauded by both UKM and netizens, who congratulated him for his useful discovery.
What is Ulam Raja?
Ulam Raja means “the King’s salad” in Malay and it is known for its medicinal, antibacterial and antifungal properties.
The part of the plant that is normally eaten is the young shoots. It is eaten as a salad usually with sambal belacan, a spicy dip made from pounded chilli, raw onions, shrimp paste and lime juice.
It is believed that consuming the plant is able to reduce blood pressure and bone loss too.
