Yesterday (22 November), Parasarana Malaysia has launched the Keluarga Malaysia Travel Pass to encourage the public to use public transport for leisure or to visit the various tourist attractions in the Klang Valley.
Launching the event, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the travel pass is sold at only RM15 and one single pass grants 4 person from the same family unlimited rides on Prasarana-owned bus and train services on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
The services include the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit, the monorail, the Bus Rapid Transit, as well as the BRT Sunway line.
“Public transportation also plays an important role towards the success of Keluarga Malaysia.”
“Aside from it being a tool to unite all races in the country, it also serves to boost the country’s economic growth.” Ismail was quoted saying by Malay Mail.
Also present were Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, and Prasarana chairman Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim.
Ismail said this initiative is aimed at encouraging Malaysian families to go out and spend quality time with their loved ones, either at the malls, or the many tourist attractions along the public transport network in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
He added that convenient, efficient, and interconnected public transport was essential for Keluarga Malaysia’s mobility.
“Public transport is no exception in playing an important role in ensuring the success of Keluarga Malaysia because apart from being a tool for national unity, it also spurs economic growth.” he said.
Apart from the travel pass, Ismail also announced the Transit Package for Small and Medium Enterprise owners, which will be implemented by Prasarana subsidiary Prasarana Integrated Development Sdn Bhd starting March next year.
The Transit Package allows SME owners to conduct business at eight LRT stations along the Kelana Jaya LRT Line.
The stations being Subang Alam, Alam Sutera, Putra Height, Puchong Industrial Park, Awan Besar, IOI Puchong Jaya, Plaza Rakyat and SS18.
However, he said the details of this package will be announced soon.
