After suffering a heavy defeat from the Melaka State Election 2021, Muhyiddin Yassin said Perikatan Nasional (PN) will not abandon its founding principles and will not be dissolved to join UMNO.
He said this at a press conference as he rejects the call from UMNO’s Lokman Adam who asked him to dissolve Bersatu and rejoin UMNO, according to FMT.
“Thank you for the invite but we have charted our path based on our values and principles.” said Muhyiddin.
He also said that PN will continue to be Barisan Nasional’s (BN) main contender in the upcoming elections too, adding that the coalition is ready to face the upcoming general electing.
Commenting on PN’s cooperation with BN at the federal level, Muhyiddin said their cooperation took place before the pools and it is their top priority to help the people and the country to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Whatever it is, we will take our experience in Melaka into consideration in deciding our position in the future.” he said.
Muhyiddin also congratulated BN for its win in the state election and he hoped that the state government will deliver its promises to the people of Melaka.
He said that despite the heavy losses, he saw support for the PN candidates and noted that they lost some seats by fewer than 1,000 votes.
“This shows that PN has made inroads, there are winds of change but it was not enough to form a state government.” he said.
