Crash in drizzle, 2 dead while four seriously injured

Two died, while four others were seriously injured after all of them were thrown out of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in an accident during a drizzle, while on holiday in Langkawi.

In the incident at 4.05 pm, in Kampung Kilim, Ayer Hangat, an army member who was also the driver of the car, Mohd Firdaus Nor Shaidi, 23, died at the Sultanah Maliha Hospital (HSM), while another victim, Maizatul Hana Mohd Rosdan, 21 , died at the scene.

Langkawi District Police Chief Shariman Ashari said the initial investigation found that all the victims, aged between 21 and 27, were tourists on holiday on the island.

He said the victims consisted of three men and three women in a Toyota Avanza MPV on the way from Kuah to Ayer Hangat.

“As soon as they arrived at the scene, the driver was believed to have lost the area before slipping and crashing into a tree on the shoulder of the Kampung Kilim road.

“The vehicle involved is believed to be driven fast on a straight road during light rain,” he said.

Shariman said, due to the impact of the strong collision, the MPV was badly crushed and all the victims were thrown out of the vehicle.

According to him, a female passenger died at the scene, while the driver died at the HSM Emergency Unit.

“A total of four victims survived, but were seriously injured and were sent to HSM for further treatment.

“All the next of kin of the victim were informed of the incident and the autopsy process on the deceased victim will be done tomorrow morning.
