An old artillery shell dating back to the World War II period was discovered in a palm oil plantation near Ladang Serigala Division A, Slim River on Saturday (13 November) afternoon.

According to Berita Harian, Muallim OCPD Supt Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said they received a call from from a man who informed them of the bomb at around 4 p.m.

Sulizmie said the bomb was a Shell 155mm artillery, measuring 73cm long, with a circumference of 50cm.

As soon as the police received the report, they rushed to the location and cordoned off the area.

“Investigations revealed that the shell was found by the side of a route used to carry harvested oil palm, nearly 3 km from the main road,” he said.

The shell was found buried in an embankment by the roadside with only the tip of it exposed.

“A team from the bomb disposal unit from the Perak police headquarters will be sent to the site to detonate the explosive.” he said.

“Bomb denoting work will be done after the Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) of the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) reached the scene.” he said.

Meanwhile, the World War II bomb was being detonated yesterday (14 November) morning.
