Netizens Slams UiTM For Its Controversial Leadership Programme

Social NewsNetizens Slams UiTM For Its Controversial Leadership Programme

A student from UiTM Lendu, Melaka has recently been tested positive for Covid-19 after attending a leadership programme at a resort believed to be organised by Barisan Nasional (BN).

According to NST, the leadership programme was held from 3 to 7 November and unfortunately, 9 out of 45 students showed upper respiratory tract symptoms (URTI).

It was also reported that the 9 students had undergone the Covid-19 PCR test and were awaiting results.

Meanwhile, Muar Member of Parliment (MP), Syed Saddiq took to Twitter to condemn the old political campaigning practice.

“Hold a political event during the pandemic, make attendance compulsory for students, the students get Covid. That’s enough of old politics. Look for new ideas to campaign. Forcing students to attend events is old political tactic,” Syed Saddiq tweeted.

Syed Saddiq also shared a comment of a parent whose child attended the leadership programme, saying that students shouldn’t be blamed because they were forced to attend events like these.

However, one of the programme facilitators had rubbised Syed Saddiq’s claims and stressed that the leadership programme was not related to politics and was organised by an NGO and the university.

She also said that students were not being forced to attend the programme and she encouraged Syed Saddiq to check with the students himself.

The programme facilitator then said the modules did not influence anyone to support BN, instead teaches the attendees about mature politics without siding any political parties.

She also demanded Syed Saddiq to take down his tweet.

On the other hand, netizens were not convinced by the programme facilitator’s claims, where one netizen said she had experienced it herself, despite the organiser did not claim it as a political event, they can slip in bias towards one party.

Another netizen questioned the programme facilitator, saying “Did UiTM ever force students to join the programme? Kahkahkah”

“Stop misleading the people.. I was once a student from UiTM, in my first semester in Diploma, we were told to follow so called ‘gotong-royong’ and have to wear a red shirt, instead it’s a meet & greet with the politician.. We are not stupid to know this all are politics agenda.” an alumni wrote.
