The PAS president, Abdul Hadi Awang has claimed that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition was formed to prevent the country from being ruled by extremist political parties.
He said this in a ceramah conducted at the Glenmarie Hotel & Golf Resort, Shah Alam held yesterday (11 November).
He also claimed that there were some who wanted to amend the Federal Constitution during the Pakatan Harapan’s rule. At the end, they did not do so, but Hadi stressed that there were efforts to do so.
Hadi said that after realising that such a move from the Pakatan Harapan coalition, several elected representatives including from his party, Umno, Bersatu and others agreed to come together to form the PN government.
Nonetheless, he said that such extreme political groups also existed in Melaka.
Hadi also commented on the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, saying that it has been around for a long time and there are weaknesses in the coalition.
“Hence, PAS, Bersatu and Gerakan have agreed to contest under the PN banner to reject these extremist parties.”
“A change must be made. If the people of Melaka want change, they must choose PN.” he claimed.
The polling day of the Melaka state election is set on 20 November.
Looking back in time, the Perikatan Nasional government was formed in March 2020 after the collapse of the PH government after Bersatu withdrew their support to the coalition.
Muhyiddin Yassin was then appointed as Malaysia’s 8th Prime Minister by the King amid the chaos, and his Cabinet comprised representatives from Barisan Nasional and PAS, among others.
However, the Perikatan Nasional government collapsed 17 month later after members from UMNO retracted their support for him as the prime minister.
Meanwhile, the relationship between both the Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional had not been well, as evidenced by UMNO’s decision to not join forces with Bersatu in the Melaka election and the next general election.
