The Caucasian woman dubbed as KLCC Karen or Karen Dior has previously cause quite a stir on social media for refusing to wear a mask in public.
On Saturday (6 November), the said “Karen” has made a comeback on Twitter, and this time, with a 2-minute video of her saying that she is merely exercising her freedom to choose.
The video was uploaded on the 117%WeThePeople Twitter page, where the the woman refers herself as the “Karen Dior” and said she hails from Manchester in the United Kingdom.
She said that she has been in Malaysia for 20 years and came in “peace and love”.
After the brief introduction, the rest of the video was mainly on her narrating freedom, among other things.
“Our song is freedom, freedom to choose what we eat, where we go, who we go with and what we do to our bodies medically or otherwise.”
“It is a choice, your choice, my choice.”
“Many countries are giving the mandates, there are links below, you are invited to read them and form your own opinion.” the woman said.
She then uses Malay terminologies like “rumah terbuka” (open house) and “makanan enak” (tasty food) to get Malaysians to imagine an open house every day for a united Malaysia, before saying a man who is not aware of his rights has no rights.
“Rumah terbuka, open your eyes, open your hearts, open your souls, open your homes.”
“Open house. Love, laughter, joy, makanan enak.”
“Imagine an open house every day for the rest of your lives, all Malaysians, all one all united.”
“A man who does not know his rights has no rights; we are free.” she said.
She ended her video with a seemingly unrelated catchphrase, “let’s go Brandon”, which is understood as a political slogan used in America to insult their president, Joe Biden.
“Let’s go Brandon” is a minced oath for “F*ck Joe Biden” which was first heard at sporting events in early September 2021 in which a sports reporter incorrectly heard the rude chants.
On 31 October, the “KLCC Karen” was slapped with a RM3,000 fine for refusing to wear a mask and checking in via MySejahtera at a retail outlet in Suria KLCC.
After a video of the incident went viral on social media, netizens labelled her as “Karen”, a pejorative term to describe a woman with an inflated sense of entitlement.
